Performance tweaking with Calendar question

Hi all,

I’m a relatively new user and I thank you guys for a great product.

Background:
I’m creating a proof of concept web application to try to replace a client’s existing application and I’m using SmartGWT to handle the UI. If this is successful, then I’ll be able to convince them to use the Enterprise version.

Problem:
I am using the Calendar widget. They have 100+ events per day and the rendering of all the little event boxes are causing a huge slow down (I think). They will eventually render but the browsers keep showing “stop unresponsive script” messages. *This is especially the case once the data has loaded and moving from Month or Day view to the Week view.

The demo will be shown on the CEO’s laptop, so asking him to disable his AV or modify any other settings will defeat the purpose of moving the application to the web (as this is a problem with their current app!).

Note:

  1. Calendar is set to Read Only (eventually will not, but for this demo it is)
  2. Bringing in data via JSON using a DataSource
  3. Must be able to render without warning prompts - the CEO used IE and when the prompt came up, he hit Yes and stopped the script and nothing rendered.
  4. Loading 1 months’ worth of data.

Questions:
Any suggestions on what I can do to help ease speed?
Or a good way find out where the delay is coming from?
Because I don’t need all the functionality right now, is there a way to streamline things by disabling items, etc?

I can’t post the actual code, but I’ll post what calls I am making for the Calendar.

Thanks. Let me know if I need to provide different information.

        final Calendar calendar = new Calendar();
        calendar.setDataSource(eventRDS);
        calendar.setDescriptionField("description");
        calendar.setEndDateField("enddate");
        calendar.setNameField("name");
        calendar.setStartDateField("startdate");
        calendar.setEventWindowStyleField("eventWindowStyle");
        calendar.setAutoFetchData(true);
        calendar.setWidth100();
        calendar.setHeight100();
        calendar.setShowMonthView(true);
        calendar.setFirstDayOfWeek(1);  //start with monday
        calendar.setShowWorkday(true);
        calendar.setScrollToWorkday(true);//focus on the workday
        calendar.setCanEditEvents(false);
        calendar.setCanCreateEvents(false);
        calendar.setCanDeleteEvents(false);
        calendar.setShowResizeBar(true);
        calendar.selectTab(0); //focus on day view to start

Hi Warren,

This is a known area where we’d like to improve performance. Can you consider Feature Sponsorship as a means of getting this done? Once we improve the performance, the new build will be available to you immediately since nightly builds are public, so this could be as quick as a 1-day turnaround.

Thanks for the response

Thanks for replying.

I’ve passed on this info to the client to see if they would be interested.

I checked the contact us page and I assume that I should select Consulting and Dev services for inquiries about Feature sponsorship?

Yes, that’s the right category, thanks.
